New Year’s Day Activities
Polar Bear Plunge: January 1, 2018 | At Noon sharp on January 1, 2018, hundreds will gather at Lakeside Park in Jacksonport to plunge into the icy waters of Lake Michigan in celebration of the New Year. From the very first solo Plunger in 1986 to the 600 who showed up in 2000, to the record 900 in 2010, there must be something magical about this chilly tradition to keep the numbers climbing! Last year here were 800 participants with the air at just 25° and water temp at 35°. There is no cost to participate, but if you plan to take the plunge, make sure you read the Tips & Forms section for swim instructions and helpful hints you should read before New Year’s Day!
New Year’s Day Parade: January 1, 2018 | Door County’s New Year’s Day Parade is held in Egg Harbor and starts at1pm running through the village on Highway 42. Now in it’s 35th year, all are invited to participate or spectate – decorate your vehicle, dress yourselves and your pets up for the festivities, and don’t forget to dress for the weather!
