Local Music Scene!
If you find yourself in Door County and wondering where the music has gone, have no fear! Despite its small town appearance, we are living in a Mecca for musicians. Whether you are looking for that relaxing afternoon listening to classical music by the beach, or a night out at a local bar listening to the next up and coming band, there is something for everyone.
Door County has been producing great musicians for a long time, most recently Eli Mattson, Pat Macdonald, melaniejane and many more have made their mark on the music scene. The Steel Bridge Songfest was started to save the Michigan St. Bridge and has blossomed into a yearly event that musicians of all caliber flock to every year. Jackson Browne, James McMurtry and many more have already agreed to come back next June for the 6th year!
The Peninsula Music Festival is here again. Door County welcomes artists from all over the world to play in nine symphonic concerts over three weeks at the Door Community Auditorium. Classical music will be played by world known musicians. Get your tickets for next year’s events or to catch any last minute openings for this year.
Free community concerts are offered in Sister Bay, Ellison Bay, Jacksonport, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek and Sturgeon Bay. Sister Bay has concerts in the park every Wednesday all summer long. The schedule is up for the 2009 season, which ends on Aug. 19th. Next year’s events will be posted once the roster is set. Enjoy sitting in the waterfront park at Sister Bay Beach and listening to groups like Big Mouth, Birch Creek Jazz, Ben Larsen, Rand Peterson and many more.
Jazz has come to Jacksonport! This small town opens its arms to visitors featuring the young student group Birch Creek Ambassadors & the talented Jeanne Kuhns. Concerts are held on Saturdays thru the summer at Lakeside Park.
Birch Creek Music Performances Center is a music academy for advanced young musicians. They are taught by nationally acclaimed instructors during the day and perform with them in the concerts put on at the facility. Concerts run from June 25th -Aug 16th and feature many different types of music.
Fishstock is a summer music festival that runs from 4th of July weekend into September featuring all the greatest acts both visiting and local. This summer featured acts like Unity, a reggae band from Baltimore, Julian Hagen, a local artist, Chris Irwin and many more. Concerts are held in a 100 yr old remodeled barn on a farm located between Baileys Harbor and Fish Creek on Cty F. A $15 fee is a small price to pay for the evening you will be sure to remember. There is never a bad concert at what us locals have come to call Camp David! Seating available for up to 550 people ensures that you will have enough space to really enjoy the show.
