The Sister Bay Bowl is an authentic, family-owned supper club – just like the ones that were so popular in the 1950s and 60s. In 1958, Earl and Rita tore down the dance hall (a Saturday night hot spot for locals) and built a six-lane bowling alley. Six years later, they opened the supper club. The Willems family still operates the Sister Bay Bowl today and a third generation is enjoying the great food that has made “the Bowl” a favorite dining destination.

Door County is home to many historic lighthouses throughout the peninsula. Some of them are open to the public but most are only open for the annual lighthouse walk in early June.
Baileys Harbor Range lights were built in 1869 to guide boats into Baileys Harbor. Geographically, Baileys Harbor is the only harbor refuge north of Milwaukee and became a crucial development. When entering the harbor, the vessel would line up the upper and lower lights to safely navigate around the shallow parts of the harbor. After the last keeper retired, the residence was turned over to the Ridges Sanctuary. Tours are available in June during the Lighthouse Walk.
PARKS & BEACHES
While the rest of the state is scorching, Door County has wonderfully comfortable beach weather. Lake Michigan waters regulate our temperatures so grab your beach bag and escape to Door County for a few days. With over 300 miles of shoreline, we have no shortage of beaches. Although every town has a public beach, there are some that lie off the beaten path.
DOOR COUNTY WILDFLOWER SCHEDULE
The Festival of Blossoms is about to begin in Door County. With over 45 native orchid species and many different wildflowers blooming from April to the end of August, Door County is recognized as a natural haven for many endangered species.
Many of the more common wildflowers can be seen from just about any road on the peninsula. You will see Daffodils, Trillium, Lady’s Slippers and many of the others by simply driving on either of the two main highways. Take a detour down roads like Ridges Rd in Baileys Harbor or many of the county roads in the Northern end of the peninsula to get an up close look at some of the less common blooms.
